This is a sneak peak of my next project, the City of the Damned. This one won't be done for awhile as I have lot going in my personal life for the next 2 months, but I wanted to show the level mechanic this project is being built around.

This is a prospect & refuge level featuring an "Eye of Sauron" mechanic. Players must seek safety in the shadows to avoid the searing gaze of the fallen angel, otherwise they will be incinerated.
The key theme of this level is that 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐬 𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲.

One of the level's early objectives is that players must retrieve a relic from the clocktower to unlock the bridge portcullis.

A cool moment is when players reach the top of the clocktower, they realize that they can 𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐝𝐨𝐰 𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐛𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐤 𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐬 from the fallen angel's gaze.
How did I come up with idea?
I focused on combining the level mechanic with the level's theme. The level's architecture heavily references Edinburgh and Prague. Prague's astronomical clocktower is one of the city's most iconic landmarks, and the subtheme of the level's clocktower POI is traversal. Therefore I thought, how can I combine an astronomical clock, a traversal mechanic, and the level mechanic in an interesting way? Within this framework, the puzzle basically designed itself.
